Ron Paul on Big Government, the Federal Reserve and Counterfeit Money

"We are dealing with a problem in Washington as a budgetary accounting problem
and that’s not it.

It’s a philosophy problem.

We have a government that is so out of control that, I don’t know,
we should call them liars.

Others would.

But they’re always telling you what they’re going to do for you.

Well how are they going to do it?

What do they have?

They produce nothing.

They have to steal it from somebody and give it to somebody else.

If you don’t have enough taxes to pay the bills,
you create this counterfeit machine called the Federal Reserve.

...Oh print the money.

That’s painless.

You don’t have to borrow money.

But the whole thing is, it’s still theft.

It’s counterfeit.

It’s illegal."

"The government consists of a gang of men exactly like you and me. They have, taking one with another, no special talent for the business of government; they have only a talent for getting and holding office. Their principal device to that end is to search out groups who pant and pine for something they can't get and to promise to give it to them. Nine times out of ten that promise is worth nothing. The tenth time is made good by looting A to satisfy B. In other words, government is a broker in pillage, and every election is sort of an advance auction sale of stolen goods." [H. L. Mencken]
